Upcoming Events

Auditions for our school play, "We Open Tomorrow Night?!"  are Wednesday, November 17th from 2:45-5:30.  See Mrs. Dill or Mrs. Montgomery for audition materials and parent permission slips.  This is a scripted talent show, so we are looking for talent show acts, and students who want to be speaking parts in the play.  Callbacks will be Thursday, November 18th from  4:15-6:00. Auditions and callbacks will be in the band room.

Thanksgiving Break will be Nov. 22nd - Nov. 26th and there is no school for students.  Students will return on Monday, Nov. 29th.

Progress Marks Students progress marks for Quarter 1 are posted to Infinite Campus.  Please login to the parent portal on IC to view your student’s current progress marks.  We will NOT be printing progress reports unless you request them through the main office.

When to Worry About Grades  If, at this point in the school year, your student is earning 1s in any GRC in a yearlong class, we strongly encourage you to make contact with the teacher of that class.  If your student is earning some 2s at this point in the year, they are likely still on trajectory to reach proficiency by the end of the year, however, if evidence of progress toward that proficiency is not clear to you as we move further into the year, we again encourage your to contact your child's teacher(s).

A Family’s Guide to Standards and Report Cards -- Sixth, Seventh and Eighth grade
The district has created this resource to strengthen communication between school and home.  This guide provides parents/guardians with an overview of the learning expectations in grades 6-8, including a summary of specific grade-level standards and indicators used for determining progress within each content area.  Electronic copies of the Family Guides are available online in English and Spanish at:

The following is a request for School-based Approval of Instructional Materials:
SHMS 7th Grade Language Arts teachers are seeking approval for the novel Never Fall Down, by Patricia McCormick. The novel, published in 2012, is an historical fiction novel based on the Cambodian Genocide and the story of Arn Chorn-Pond’s struggle for survival during this time. The book aligns with Colorado State Standards and Unit 5 Adams 12 Five Star School District’s Units of Study. Several copies of this book are available for the school community for review between Nov. 15, 2021 thru December 9, 2021. The community may also obtain a copy through AmazonKindle, Audible, or your closest Anythink Library. Please contact 7th grade Language Arts Teachers should you have questions, comments, or concerns.

The Cambodian Genocide

The Khmer Rouge took control of the Cambodian government in 1975, with the goal of turning the country into a communist agrarian utopia. In reality, they emptied the cities and evacuated millions of people to labor camps where they were starved and abused.

Doctors, teachers and other educated people, as well as monks, the rich, and anyone perceived to be in opposition were tortured and killed.

It is estimated that between 1.7 and 2 million Cambodians died during the 4 year reign of the Khmer Rouge, with little to no outcry from the international community.
