Counseling Department

Hello Awesome Silver Hills Students!  As you probably know, next week we'll be celebrating the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We have a day off on Monday to remember him.  He was a brave man who used peaceful actions to accomplish his goals. He lived a life of service.

Why are we bringing this up?  Well, two of our Sources of Strength are Generosity and Healthy Activities.  These things help us to stay positive and hopeful.  With that in mind, did you know that MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities? AmeriCorps has been charged with leading this effort for the past quarter century.  AmeriCorps is a part of our United States Federal Government.  They have a website on which you can find some ideas of how to do service that will make our community and our world a better place.

If you decide to participate in any positive activities in honor of MLK Day, please send me a photo so we can recognize your efforts!

Stay healthy, hopeful and positive!  -- Sincerely, Your Silver Hills Counselors
