2026-2027 School Year: Back-to-school resources and information

Important Dates & Upcoming Events

  • Friday, July 31: Schedules released to families who have completed online check-in
  • Saturday, Aug. 1: Back to School Bash - free backpack and school supplies for district families, while supplies last, thanks to A Precious Child
  • Monday, Aug. 10: Orientation for 6th and 9th graders (not including K-8 schools)

First day of school

Tuesday, Aug. 11

⭐New This Year

We've updated how we send communications—including text alerts, emails and phone calls—from both the district and our schools. This year, we have moved to a new system, Alerts (powered by Apptegy). This is the same system your child's classroom teacher(s) used last year to connect with you! 
 

What's new:
 

💻Changes in Student Device Use

Starting this year, students in district elementary, K-8, and middle schools will no longer take district Chromebooks home at the end of the school day.

This is part of an effort to reduce student screen use. The district is also eliminating its Chromebook insurance fee for parents.
 

✅ Free & Reduced Benefits is about more than just free meals 

Starting this year, most student fees have been waived or partially waived for any eligible student. These include athletic fees, course fees, and activity and field trip fees tied to the curriculum.

In addition to waived student fees, families can also help their child's school (schools receive more than $1,100 per qualifying student). Families must reapply each school year.

New Student Fees System 

Families will now use PaySchools Central (previously PayForIt) to make applicable school payments, including fees and other school-related items. New website, same parent login as was previously used.

SAFETY

🔒Situations: How will families be notified?
Schools practice safety procedures throughout the school year, including fire, secure and lockDOWN drills.
To do before the first day of school:
  • Review your role in an emergency and how families will be notified at www.adams12.org/safety
     
  • Update your contact information so you receive important messages
     
  • Text alerts will now come from 98900. If you do not receive text alerts but would like to, text START to 98900.
 

COMMUNITY

District Policy Changes

Review changes to how elementary students log into their district accounts, ordering school photos, as well as updates to the district’s field trip and graduation policies. Learn more
 
Across the district, our summer 2026 bond projects are wrapping up. This summer’s work includes general renovations at eight schools, updated playground equipment at four elementary schools, new CTE spaces at five middle schools and one K-8, construction kickoff for the multi-year Thornton High rebuild, and many other investments across the district.
