Hello! My name is Sara Bloom and I am one of the counselors at Silver Hills! This year I have the privilege of working with 6th Grade! I have been a school counselor for five years and absolutely love this job. Supporting this generation's youth is my passion and I absolutely love being able to do this in a school setting. I have always valued education as a means to gain knowledge, power, and opportunity and knew that I wanted to work with youth in an academic setting where I can provide the most comprehensive counseling and mental health services to large groups of students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs/wants/goals. I maintain a multicultural and systems approach to my counseling in which I honor and value diversity, social justice and equity, community, activism, and human experiences. I want all students and families to know that my focus is on the wellbeing, safety, growth, and success of all my students and I will always work my hardest to be an advocate, an ally, a resource, and a support system for all of them! This year may begin a lot differently than we imagined, but know that I am here with you all and offer my energy, time, support, and committment!
A little about me personally: I am originally from the east coast! I grew up in New Jersey, right outside NYC, and came out to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder (GO BUFFS!). There, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Ethnic Studies!! Although it has been tough being far away from home and family, I fell in love with Colorado for so many reasons! After undergrad, I spent some time working in the Mental Health field as a counselor with "at-risk" youth and later with children and moms in Domestic Violence safe-shelters. I soon realized I wanted more training and education in the counseling and mental health field, so after a few years I applied to Grad School at the University of Colorado Denver. From there I received my Master's Degree in Counseling. I chose to focus on a career in School Counseling in order to pursue my dream of working with youth that also emphasized education. My Master's program also allowed me to pursue a License as a Professional Counselor and currently I possess my LPC which is a national certification held by professional therapists. I currently live in Denver with my amazing partner, our two cats, and a baby on the way! When I am not working, I enjoy hiking, running, international and national travel, concerts/music/theater, museums, reading/listening to books, spending time with friends and family, snowboarding, art and culture, binge watching a great Netflix Show, board games, eating delicious food amongst so many other things! I hope to get to know you all more over the course of this year and beyond!
